Initiative tracker

Initiative is the order everyone takes turns in during a fight. Add your players and monsters, and the tracker keeps the order, the round and the hit points for you, on your phone at the table.

Round

–

Add everyone in the fight, then start.

Keyboard: press N for the next turn and B to go back, when you are not typing in a box.

Add to the fight

Side

Leave initiative empty and it is rolled for you: a d20 (a twenty-sided die) plus the modifier.

Turn order

  1. 19 Ash Player, modifier +3 24 / 24
  2. 15 Wolf 1 Monster, modifier +2 7 / 11
  3. 15 Wolf 2 Monster, modifier +2 11 / 11
  4. 12 Bryn Player, modifier +1

Example order. Wolf 1 and Wolf 2 tie on 15 and on their modifier, so they keep the order you set. Add your own to start.

The fight stays on this device, in this browser, so a refresh or a closed tab does not lose it. Clear everything to remove it.

How to use it

Add each player and monster with a name and their initiative roll. Type the number the player rolled, or leave it empty and the tracker rolls a d20 (a twenty-sided die) and adds the modifier for you. Hit points and notes are optional. For a group of the same monster, add one, tap Edit and make copies: they are numbered Wolf 1, Wolf 2 and so on, and share the same initiative.

Press Start the fight, then Next turn as each turn ends. On a keyboard, N moves to the next turn and B goes back one. Type an amount and tap Damage or Heal to change hit points, and tap Out when someone drops out of the fight. Their turns are skipped until you bring them back in.

How to read it

The list runs top to bottom in turn order. The highlighted row is whoever is taking a turn, and the panel at the top shows the round and who is up next. Each time the last person in the order finishes, a new round starts and the count goes up by one.

How the order is worked out

Highest initiative goes first. If two tie, the higher modifier goes first. If they still tie, you decide: open Edit and use Move up or Move down. Change anyone's initiative and the list sorts itself again. Everything stays on this device, so a refresh or a closed tab does not lose the fight, and Clear everything wipes it.

Questions and answers

What is initiative in a tabletop RPG?

Initiative is the order everyone takes turns in during a fight. Each player and monster rolls, usually a twenty-sided die plus a bonus, and the highest goes first. The tracker sorts the rolls and keeps your place.

What happens when two initiative rolls tie?

The higher modifier goes first. If the modifiers match too, the tracker keeps the order you set, and you can swap them with Move up and Move down. Your game may have its own rule for ties, so set the order to match it.

Does the tracker save if I close the page?

Yes, on this device and in this browser. The order, round, hit points and notes are kept until you press Clear everything. Nothing is sent to us, so it will not appear on another phone.

Which games does it work with?

Any game where players and monsters take turns in an order set by a roll. It uses plain words, initiative, round and hit points, and the notes box is yours for anything your game tracks.
